Right Use of Power: Ethics for the Helping Professions - Resources, Education, and Training. Using power skillfully and wisely is one of the most important and pivotal issues of our times and our lives. The Right Use of Power approach focuses on skills and concepts that turn ethics to a verb for creating empowered relationships in which difficulties, confusion, and harm are attended to and repaired.

Designed for both Home-Study and Groups, the 250-page resource book and program are dynamic, restorative, and relationship - focused through experiential self-study.

Breathing Heart and Soul into the study of ethics, the training is organized around four dimensions of the power spiral. Right use of power is informed, conscious, caring, and skillful.

Power Spiral Dimension 1:
Right use of power is Informed.
Through a felt sense of the profound impact of the power differential in professional relationships, gain a working knowledge of ethics codes as guides and resources, and practice in using the power spiral for ethical decision-making.

Power Spiral Dimension 2:
Right use of power is Conscious.
Gain a deeper awareness and healing around personal issues of power and authority, learn about the dis-empowering influence of shame, and investigate power habits and tendencies in helping relationships.

Power Spiral Dimension 3:
Right use of power is Caring.
Bring heart to ethics by understanding the difference between impact and intention, learning skills for tracking and resolving conflict before it escalates, self-correcting from mistakes without shame or blame, and having practical information about grievance processes.

Power Spiral Dimension 4:
Right use of power is Skillful.
Increase skillfulness and wisdom in the use of power through asking for and using feedback more effectively, behaving pro-actively based on knowledge of ethical challenges, using insights about power dynamics, and directing the use of power toward world service.
